Palihotel San Diego

San Diego, California
A Dovetail Production

In 2021, Dovetail + Co acquired the historic St. James Hotel located in the Gaslamp District of San Diego. The St. James Hotel was originally built in 1913 as a Victorian, eleven-story hotel that soared over San Diego with stunning, unobstructed views of the city. Today, the stately and storied structure maintains its original two-story neon sign along with shimmering chandeliers, detailed tin ceilings, stained glass windows, and marble staircases all hailing from the early 1900s.

San Diego’s Gaslamp District buzzed in the late 1800s when the area was home to saloons, gambling halls, and bordellos. Today, the area still sparkles with bars, restaurants, and nightlife venues. The famous 16 ½ block neighborhood hosts yearly events and festivals while boasting close proximity to San Diego’s Major League Baseball Field and Convention Center.

The St. James Hotel has been reimagined and reopened as the Palihotel San Diego in 2023, part of Palisociety’s national collection of unique hotels and residences, known for eclectic design, independent spirit, and a hands-on approach to innkeeping.

As a Palisociety hotel, the St. James will retain its historic charm and dazzling rooftop views. A quick walk from the harbor front, Palihotel San Diego will bring a youthful, design-centric offering to San Diego’s hospitality landscape with a preppy, contemporary nautical-inspired personality, new restaurant, and rooftop space.
